One of the foundational principles of the spiritual life is to be where we are and to encounter God exactly where we are. It takes humility, a humility that comes from secure attachment. When we know we are loved for who we are, regardless of our successes or failures, it creates a foundation of security. This security allows us to be present in the moment and wait for the grace that propels us forward in spiritual and emotional maturity. Seeking to please God is not driven by fear, but by the overflow of knowing we are loved by Him. It's not about earning security but about expressing gratitude for the secure base we've found in His love.
